TURNING STONES COUNSELING
Anne Morrill-Ploum, MA LCPC
First off, thanks for visiting my website. It takes courage to embark upon a journey like the one you're on right now. Asking for help is hard and I recognize that. I'm honored that you are considering me and if we're a good fit, I would appreciate the opportunity to walk along side you, your child(ren) and/or your family as you navigate your transition to better, whatever that looks like to you.
Now here's a bit about me:
Hi and welcome,
My name is Anne Morrill-Ploum, MA, CCTP and LCPC (she/her pronouns). I am an art therapist and a licensed clinical professional counselor. I received my Master of Arts in Art Therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1992, and since I have specialized as a child, adolescent and family therapist. Along the way, I married (29 years and counting), I've launched two children and in that process gained valuable lived-experience as my children were challenged with dyslexia, ADHD and bullying. This lead to understanding the role of a client with psychologists, psychiatrists, reading specialists, optometrist, occupational therapists and mental health therapists. All valuable experience and it informs my role as a therapist.
I have worked as a children’s counselor in a domestic violence agency, as a child and adolescent sexual abuse therapist, and as a therapist in an agency specializing in the treatment of foster children and adolescents. I have been in private practice since 2000 almost exclusively in the south suburbs. I have provide services on Chicago's south side since 2015.

I am an Attachment focused and trauma informed therapist and my interests include adoption, childhood and parenting issues. I specialize in helping families who struggle with the disconnection that a variety of adverse childhood experiences, including developmental trauma, can cause. I have experience treating issues stemming from adoption, physical, sexual and emotional abuse, emotional neglect, domestic violence, parental separation and divorce, mood disorders, anxiety, as well as neurocognitive issues, namely attention deficit disorders and executive skills difficulties. I use a collaborative approach with families, I focus on strengthening the parent-child relationship and I am inclusive of parents in therapy. Parents often become the co-therapist, carrying on the work at home.

I am very interested in training with parents who want to better understand their childs(rens) or teen(s) behaviors. I also coordinate with Begin Within Therapy, and in collaboration with them, I present a 12-week parenting course that is comprehensive and utilizes interactions. It will shed light on all behaviors and leave parents with the confidence and knowledge needed so that they can parent more effectively.

Credentials:
I am a certified clinical trauma professional through the International Association of Trauma Professionals. I have completed level 2 Theraplay® and level 2 Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, both attachment-based approaches that are a large focus in my work. I also have training in Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) an attachment based parenting approach. I lean into polyvagal theory, helping clients map their nervous systems to better understand the relationship between mind and body. I am passionate about working with adoption and I have completed the National Adoption Competency Training for Mental Health Professionals, a comprehensive 25 hour training in adoption. I am also a level 2 Brainspotter, a modality that helps resolve trauma.
